The Babylonian Empire
Mountain 3

Babylon was the third mountain of the seven mountains of Revelation 17:9-10. It was also the first of four empires that God revealed to Daniel at different times during his life. Nebuchadnezzar started menacing the Israelites in 605 B.C.. He took many captives back to Babylon at that time. He later sieged and destroyed Jerusalem in 586 B.C. The Babylonian Empire was growing and Israel was a part of it now. The Babylonians captured all of the land that the Assyrians before them had controlled and then some. The Babylonian Empire came to an end in 539 B.C. when God judged Belshazzar and the Babylonians as he drank wine from the gold and silver implements that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem. God raised up the Persian Empire as an instrument of judgment and destruction against Babylon.

The Babylonian Empire lies within the yellow circle on a modern geopolitical map.
