The Day of the Lord in the Koran

[Sura 14:48]

One day the earth will be changed to a different earth, and so will be the heavens, and (men) will be marshalled forth, before God, the One, the Irresistible;

[Sura 16:77]

To God belongeth the Mystery of the heavens and the earth. And the Decision of the Hour (of Judgment) is as the twingkling of an eye, or even quicker: for God hath power over all things.

[Sura 18:47]

One Day We shall remove the mountains, and thou wilt see the earth as a level stretch, and We shall gather them, all together, nor shall We leave out any one of them.

[Sura 20:104-105]

They ask thee concerning the Mountains: say, "My Lord will uproot them and scatter them as dust;

"He will leave them as plains smooth and level

"Nothing crooked or curved wilt thou see in their place."

[Sura 21:104]

The Day that We roll up the heavens like a scroll rolled up for books (completed),- even as We produced the first creation, so shall We produce a new one: a promise We have undertaken: truly shall We fulfil it.

[Sura 22:1-2]

O mankind! fear your Lord! for the quake (convulsion) of the Hour (of Judgment) will be a thing terrible!

The Day ye shall see it, every mother giving suck shall forget her suckling- babe, and every pregnant female shall drop her load (unformed): thou shalt see mankind as in a drunken riot, yet not drunk: but dreadful will be the Wrath of God.

[Sura 22:7]

And verily the Hour will come: there can be no doubt about it; about (the fact) that God will raise up all who are in the graves.

[Sura 22:55]

Those who reject Faith will not cease to be in doubt concerning (Revelation) until the Hour (of Judgment) comes suddenly upon them, or there comes to them the Penalty of a Day of Disaster.

[Sura 25:11]

Nay they deny the hour (of the judgment to come): but We have prepared a blazing fire for such as deny the hour:

When it sees them from a place far off, they will hear its fury and its ranging sigh.

And when they are cast, bound together into a constricted place therein, they will plead for destruction there and then!

"This day plead not for a single destruction: plead for destruction oft- repeated!"

[Sura 27:83,85]

One day We shall gather together from every people a troop of those who reject our Signs, and they shall be kept in ranks,-

And the Word will be fulfilled against them, because of their wrong-doing, and they will be unable to speak (in plea).

[Sura 30:12-15]

On the Day that the Hour will be established, the guilty will be struck dumb with despair.

No intercessor will they have among their "Partners" and they will (themselves) reject their "Partners".

On the Day that the Hour will be established,- that Day shall (all men) be sorted out.

Then those who have believed and worked righteous deeds, shall be made happy in a Mead of Delight.

[Sura 30:]

On the Day that the Hour (of Reckoning) will be established, the transgressors will swear that they tarried not but an hour: thus were they used to being deluded!

But those endued with knowledge and faith will say: "Indeed ye did tarry, within God's Decree, to the Day of Resurrection, and this is the Day of Resurrection: but ye - ye were not aware!"

So on that Day no excuse of theirs will avail the transgressors, nor will they be invited (then) to seek grace.

[Sura 36:49-50]

And they say: When will this threat come to pass, if you are truthful?

They wait not for aught but a single cry which will overtake them while they yet contend with one another.

So they shall not be able to make a bequest, nor shall they return to their families.

[Sura 43:66-68]

Do they wait for aught but the hour, that it should come ! upon them all of a sudden while they do not perceive?

The friends shall on that day be enemies one to another, except those who guard (against evil).

O My servants! there is no fear for you this day, nor shall you grieve.

[Sura 45:27]

And God's is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; and on the day when the hour shall come to pass, on that day shall they perish who say false things.

[Sura 52:9-11]

On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side

And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether).

So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth),

[Sura 56:1-6]

And when the heaven is rent asunder, and then becomes red like red hide.

When the great event comes to pass,

There is no belying its coming to pass--

Abasing (one party), exalting (the other),

When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking,

And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling,

So that they shall be as scattered dust.

[Sura 57:12-13]

On that day you will see the faithful men and the faithful women-- their light running before them and on their right hand-- good news for you today: gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide therein, that is the grand achievement.

On the day when the hypocritical men and the hypocritical women will say to those who believe: Wait for us, that we may have light from your light; it shall be said: Turn back and seek a light. Then separation would be brought about between them, with a wall having a door in it; (as for) the inside of it, there shall be mercy in it, and (as for) the outside of it, before it there shall be punishment.

[Sura 66:8]

O you who believe! turn to God a sincere turning; maybe your Lord will remove from you your evil and cause you to enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, on the day on which God will not abase the Prophet and those who believe with him; their light shall run on before them and on their right hands; they shall say: Our Lord! make perfect for us our light, and grant us protection, surely Thou hast power over all things.

[Sura 68:42-43]

On the day when there shall be a severe affliction, and they shall be called upon to make obeisance, but they shall not be able,

Their looks cast down, abasement shall overtake them; and they were called upon to make obeisance indeed while yet they were safe.

[Sura 69:13-16]

And when the trumpet is blown with a single blast,

And the earth and the mountains are borne away and crushed with a single crushing.

On that day shall the great event come to pass,

And the heaven shall cleave asunder, so that on that day it shall be frail,

[Sura 70:1-3]

One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall

The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it--

From God, the Lord of the ways of Ascent.

[Sura 70:6-16]

Surely they think it to be far off,

And We see it nigh.

On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper

And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool

And friend shall not ask of friend

(Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children,

And his wife and his brother

And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter,

And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him.

By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire

Dragging by the head,

[Sura 73:14]

On the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains shall become (as) heaps of sand let loose.

[Sura 73:17-18]

How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed?

The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment.

[Sura 74:8-9]

For when the trumpet is sounded,

That, at that time, shall be a difficult day,

[Sura 75:7-11]

So when the sight becomes dazed,

And the moon becomes dark,

And the sun and the moon are brought together,

Man shall say on that day: Whither to fly to?

By no means! there shall be no place of refuge!

[Sura 77:8-10]

So when the stars are made to lose their light,

And when the heaven is rent asunder,

And when the mountains are carried away as dust,

[Sura 79:6-10]

The day on which the quaking one shall quake,

What must happen afterwards shall follow it.

Hearts on that day shall palpitate,

Their eyes cast down.

They say: Shall we indeed be restored to (our) first state?

[Sura 80:33-42]

But when the deafening cry comes,

The day on which a man shall fly from his brother,

And his mother and his father,

And his spouse and his son--

Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him.

(Many) faces on that day shall be bright,

Laughing, joyous.

And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust,

Darkness shall cover them.

These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked.

[Sura 81:1-4]

When the sun is covered,

And when the stars darken,

And when the mountains are made to pass away,

And when the camels are left untended,

[Sura 82:1-2]

When the heaven becomes cleft asunder,

And when the stars become dispersed,

[Sura 84:1-2]

When the heaven bursts asunder,

And obeys its Lord and it must.

[Sura 89:21]

Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces,

[Sura 99:1]

When the earth is shaken with her (violent) shaking,

[Sura 101:1-5]

The terrible calamity!

What is the terrible calamity!

And what will make you comprehend what the terrible calamity is?

The day on which men shall be as scattered moths,

And the mountains shall be as loosened wool.
