9/11 Sparks Arab Economic Boom

In a Washington Times article from 08/27/05, titled “9/11 Seen As Sparking Arab Economic BoomAssets Shifted From U.S. To Gulf,” we get a picture of what the future holds as things continue to line up with Bible Prophecy.

Many modern prophecy “experts” try to pin the moniker of Babylon the Great on the U.S., New York City or any other prosperous locality that pops into their heads and conjures up images of what they think the Book of Revelation is describing in regards to the beast kingdom. However, when we read the whole Bible and accept what it says, as opposed to what we want it to say, Babylon is still a city in Iraq.

The Babylon of Iraq will be the Babylon of the end times. Revelation 18 describes it as a city of enormously wealthy sea trade. It may take a major dredging operation up and down the entire three hundred mile length of the Euphrates River from the Gulf to the ancient city of Babylon to make that a reality, or it may take a sprawl of the city across most of the desert area of Iraq to the Persian Gulf to accomplish this, but it will be accomplished somehow.

In the Washington Times article we learn how Arabs started pulling assets out of the U.S. and reinvesting in their own nations after 9/11 and the string of events that have occurred which are bringing enormous returns on their investments.

After 9/11 Arabs began to sense American hostility towards them and feared that much of their assets would be frozen in the search for terrorist bankrolls. That coupled with the bursting of the dot com bubble and a weak U.S. economy causing portfolios to shrink, it created an unusual type of flight to quality for many Arab investors. Their own economies were experiencing comebacks due to a rebound and eventual tripling of oil prices. The return of assets from over seas just strengthened the economic recoveries that were already under way. There is currently over $100 billion dollars worth of construction projects of all types taking place in the Gulf region right now.

Babylon will be built again. It may not be exactly as we envision it, but as the Iraqi economy starts to catch on fire, and the nations of the world begin to divert cargo and investment dollars to the port city, Babylon, which will be the center of the Arab free trade zone, will rise again.

The U.S. does have a small part to play, but somewhere along the way we are going to lose control. All of the investment that is going on in the rest of the Middle East will more than likely meet up with the rebuilding of Iraq. Once a certain level of peace, a secure government and a system of free enterprise take root and begin to flourish, the Iraqi neighbors will want to invest their billions into the ports and other regions of Iraq for even greater returns.

The Bible tells us that Satan was first corrupted by the love of money in the ages before time as he perverted his trafficking in merchandise to enrich and empower himself. It also tells us that he is, and will continue to be behind the buildup of wealth in the region which will one day be THE KINGDOM OF THE BEAST.

God is in there also. The war in Iraq and the removal of Saddam Hussein is just an outward manifestation of the spiritual battle for souls that is taking place in the background. Without the war many souls would be lost to eternity, however, because of the war barriers to the gospel are being broken down. Many people recognize that the war was one to free people in the natural and that will translate into freedom in the spirit through salvation in Christ.

All of this should serve to remind us not to tinker with Bible prophecy. It says what it says. We don’t need to add special meaning to everything we read. God is not done with Babylon. The Old Testament prophecies against Babylon were only partially fulfilled in the past when the empire of Babylon fell to the empire of Persia. Babylon will see a rise to greatness once more through peace and prosperity, but eventually the soul of Ancient Babylon will gain the ascendancy, and then the remainder of prophetic judgments will be fulfilled.
