WMDs and the French Connection

It took many long months for the Bush Administration to finally conclude that working through the world governing body called the United Nations was a dead end boulevard. The United Nations spent years in and out of Iraq looking for Saddam’s weapons capabilities with limited success. Was it because of a lack of true effort, or was the effort focused more on a coverup?

Jacque Chirac has proven himself to be just one out of many of the new breed of Bush Haters, but that in itself is not the reason for the stonewalling that he did leading up to the war. There were claims that there needed to be a counterbalance to the strength of the US government and it’s military in the absence of a Soviet counterweight. But, was that the true reason for Chiraq’s charade? Did the Chirac French government lead the Russians, Germans and to a lessor extent the Chinese in a war of words and parliamentary manoeuvres against the the Bush White House, et el, because they were on the side of world peace?

Even before the war began there were evidences of dirty dealings between these nations and the regime of Saddam Hussein. Oil for weapons and weapons technology for oil. Oil money that was supposed to be used for the humanitarian needs of the Iraqi people being used to build lavish palaces and to purchase those things that were on Saddam’s personal wish list of destruction. Oh, and let’s not forget about reward money paid to the families of suicide bombers. Now, there’s a real humanitarian need for you. The governments of the world were standing up for the Iraqi economic system that was pumping millions, and even billions of dollars into their own coffers. Never mind that it was blood money.

The whole deal was infinitely worse than dealing with the Mafia, the drug cartels or robbing an old woman and then stabbing her. They were dealing with Mr WMD himself. A man that had tens or hundreds of thousands of deaths to his credit. They were dealing with the likes of the Kamer Rouge. Although Saddam was never considered a religious man, he was calling on the name of Allah in an attempt to rally the backbone of Islam, the fanatical fundamentalist who are simply carrying out the task that was laid to them by their god­the elimination of all non-Muslims from the face of the earth.

So why were they so intent on preventing the war? Was it just to hide their past dealings and to cover their shame? Was it to protect a valuable source of income and billions of dollars that were still owed to them by the Iraqi leader? Or did it go even beyond that. Did the French and their partners in crime pull off a mind boggling heist that would make any Hollywood producer wish that he had thought of it first? Did they go into Iraq and cleanse the entire country of every little remnant of their past indiscretions?

Were there weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Every intelligence agency in the world believed that they existed. Saddam acted as though they did. The French acted as though it would be the worst thing that could ever happen if Iraq were to be liberated and the mad man removed.

But, where could they be hiding them now if they ever did exist? Iran? Syria? Saudi Arabia? All the above? They may not get along normally, but it’s amazing how cooperative they can be when the great satan starts to threaten one of their own kind. And with a little friendly coercion from the French and Russians, just about anything is possible. That would explain the universal silence of the top scientist and other government officials also if they’re still scared for their lives. Maybe more now than when it was just little old Saddam keeping an eye on things. There might not have been the weapons that everyone thought existed, but if there were, maybe all we need to do is refocus our attention to places outside of Iraq.
